Move over Santa Clause, #NationalGrilledCheeseDay is coming to town. The exact origin of this glorious national holiday remains mostly unknown, but that’s ok because when it comes to the melty classic getting it’s own nation wide Internet holiday - we don’t care nearly as much about how it happened as we do about how to celebrate! SO break out your eating pants while we turn on the griddle and show you how Gorilla Cheese NYC has taken the grilled cheese scene to new heights.
The bright yellow New York City based food truck, boasts a giant Gorilla with the empire state building in one hand and a grilled cheese in the other. If this sounds familiar it’s probably because it’s what we look like right around lunch time when nothing (not even one of the largest buildings in the country) can stand between us and our grilled cheese fix.
What sets Gorilla Cheese apart from being just another grilled cheese is, well a lot. National Grilled Cheese day is a day not only to honor the classic, but to explore the many culinary doors the grilled cheese opens for us, let’s talk specialty sammy’s: Sharp cheddar with BBQ pulled pork and caramelized onion because the worlds of grilled cheese and BBQ should not be mutually exclusive! Buffalo chicken, smoked mozzarella, triple cream brie and prosciutto di parma are just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to what a grilled cheese can be.
Most recently the Samuel Adams Beer infused grilled cheese has had us begging and pleading for more, what will they come up with next. So quit burning day light, get out there and get your #NationalGrilledCheeseDay celebration on. And don’t forget to show us just how cheesy you can get, tag @nyfta so we can share the cheesiness.
